Although nobody has taken advantage of it yet, the Arrrgh has a spiffy new google-powered Gmail e-mail address -- we use Blogger, now owned by Google, to run this website and the accounts were offered to active Blogger users. We like it because it allows up to 1 GB of e-mail space, which would allow listeners to send up MP3s to play on the air -- something no commercial station would ever do.
Another bonus to getting in on the Gmail ground floor is that we could get a prime e-mail address that is otherwise already taken at most other free e-mail services -- freeradio@gmail.com. To get freeradio@yahoo or hotmail would have required signing on back in 1996.
However, much to our surprise, it turns out that there's a black-market value to these spiify, but scarce, Gmail accounts. Over at Gmail Swap, the gmail-less are offering all sorts of swag in exchange for prime gmail accounts. Little did we know that we could score an Estes model rocket kit. Why, maybe we could use it to launch a transmitter into the lower atmosphere!
On second thought, methinks we'll hang onto freeradio@gmail.com and use it for the forces of free radio.
